- Humane animal slaughter
Hey Rosemary, this is a topic that I've been interested in for a while. Which legislation are you referring to?
I think the interest in S/O/L/E food decisions is a good thing. I want everyone to make conscious choices, but there seems to be an obsession with dictating morality for others lately.
I love animals, I know it's a contradiction that I also eat animals, wear products made of them. I applaud the search for more humane ways of farming them, but the focus on three foie gras farms versus the cattle or poultry industry is completely misguided and a total red herring, in my opinion.
Artisan producers, which I frequently highlight, are one way to make more healthy, delicious and ethical choices.
Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Jacqueline,
The legislation is the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act, passed 1n 1958. The act basicaly said that slaughtered animals should not suffer and that they must be unconscious when they are killed.
While some of the debate may be misguided, the debate itself is very important. Perhaps we are on the verge of finally dealing with this issue instead of looking the other way.
