» DevorahStone - Yep I know what you mean!

Ok I live in a foodie paradise although we don't have the bounty of San Francisco and I'm the host of the Seasonal Cooking forum BUT--- there just are limits aren't there? I mean we don't grow kwiwis here or lychee or durim fruit, to name a few. And I can't live wihout olives. I mean who can? And while I love local strawberries and they are so much better than the imported ones - well I just can't wait that long for the local ones the season is just too short!

I think it's a good provocative idea and am glad that people are thinking about how disconnected most of us are from our food sources. No secret I adore local fresh foods and support independent businesses whenever I can...still if most of us had to give up everything outside a 100 limit, we'd be pretty bored while we watch the food and travel shows, read our Saveur and Gourmet and so forth. The escolar I had for dinner was divine.

And really, if I had to give up all my wine, Scotch and Bourbon even the locavores wouldn't want to dine with me!

Here's to thoughtful and adventurous eating.

Cheers!
