Mmm, layoff pie...Sounds delicious! And the recipe doesn't sound too complicated. happy I'm used to buying the premade graham cracker crust, but I want to try this. Question: What do you think of using a bag of frozen blueberries? thanks.

Blueberries are one of those things that freeze well. If you are going to use frozen ones, I recommend looking for the small Maine blueberries and/or organics. Really, any will do. I'd start with less sugar, let the berries sit for a bit then, taste. Easier to add sugar than take away.

It's great fun to try and even the bad ones aren't too bad! Let me know if I can help. I'd love to hear how it goes, if you can get leaf lard it'll make it even better...that reminds me I was going to give readers that info! I'll post it now on my blog...

Have fun!

Well, it's done! I have to admit I wimped out on the fresh fruit, although why must be sheer laziness on my part, since fresh organic produce is always readily available here in SoCal. I looked for small Maine berries at your suggestion, and I used a premixed 1/2 sugar, 1/2 Splenda for the added sweetness. No leaf lard. But the pie and crust? It came out GREAT and the kids gobbled it up. Thank you so much -- now all I need is a follow-up recipe for how to get blueberry stains out of kids' clothes. happy (Oxyclean to the rescue!)

Terrific! I just made one with fresh blackberries and golden Cape gooseberries. Never had seen or tasted the gooseberries before. It was great. They have little papery husks like tomatillos - lovely combo though. I'll see if I can post a photo- Jacqueline
