I can tell you Jacqueline, having lived in S.Fla for 3 years, customer service can at times be VERY lacking. Wondering why- I decided to ask Chef Tim Norris- which you likely read about in my Missives From Afar- Miami piece. He tells me that because South Florida is so transient in nature- with snow birds and young professionals looking to soak up fun in the sun- that customer serivce is often short in supply. Servers and managers aren't always making their professional choice a long-term committment- it's often a stop gap in between the 'next gig' or until they head back up north to cities like yours in Boston, Philly or NYC to name a few. This of course doesn't excuse said lady for being so rude- but it does give one cause to pause a moment. Enjoy your goodies- they should make up for the lack of common manners! :-)

I think culturally, too, there must be something that happens with the demographics there that I don't get. The folks I had the most maddening service from were not the types you describe, but were likely immigrants relegated to lower paid service work. I had a different experience in a non-tourist place (e.g. Cuban diner) you simply have to know how to read cultural differences. Very odd. And odder still, the Yanqui manager has yet to respond. (!) But yes, the treats are spinning out many good meals.
