November Culinary CalendarOther than Thanksgiving; Food, Wine, Cooking Events this Month
Holidays are upon us and the fundraising season is, too. Here's a mix of fun, serious, charitable and silly things on our culinary calendar this month.
Culinary events ramp up in the fall, perhaps a class with a star chef would make the perfect gift? Holidays are here and we want to brush up our cooking skills - learn to make a perfect pie crust before Thanksgiving. It's easy and you can learn how, here. We also want to attend the benefits and fundraisers with our favorite celebrity chefs, culinary stars and support our community programs in tasty ways. Here are a few not-to-be missed events this month. November 3 -17 - Comfort Food Recipe Contest. Hey, it's not just about A-list celebrity events. What is your go-to comfort food dish? The one that makes your loved ones swoon? Why not test your chops in this contest hosted by MarxFoods. Since the Marx family emigrated to the US in the late 1800s this business has expanded from butchering to all things gourmet. Fancy or not, we all need our comfort foods when the weather turns. Throw your toque (or wooden spoon) into the ring and you may come away with $250 to spend on gourmet groceries. See MarxFoods.com for details. November 13-15 - New York City - Dumplings and Dynasties hosted by the James Beard Foundation. Regional Chinese cuisine is just becoming known to us here. Just as we once thought all Italian food was the same, we are awakening to the regional foods of this ancient and contemporary cuisine. Learn about history, culture and food of China from Chinese chefs, both local and International. See www.JBFChina2008.com. November 15, 16 - Providence, RI - Farmstead and La Laiterie - Supporting local and artisan cheesemakers and producers this unique spot offers tastings and in store lessons. Perfect for your holiday table, learn about artisanal cheeses in this chef owned-operated store and resto. Matt & Kate Jennings offer unique locally made, produced artisan meats, cheeses and more. A gem of a resource for foodies in the area. www.farmsteadinc.com November 17 - Chef Laurent Tourondel and D'Artagnan Owner Ariane Daguin host a five-course D'Artagnan Game Tasting Dinner on Monday, November 17.
