Eat Local Versus Eat Organic - False Dichotomy

The "eat local" debate (what would grammarians say?) rages on. Some define it as organic versus local, a false dichotomy others point out. Locavores and the "100 mile diet" proponents want us to limit our diets to foods grown or produced within 100 miles of where we live. I point out the movement began in Berkeley California - 100 miles include year round produce, great wines, seafood. No wonder. Is local food that pushes chemicals downstream better than organic food we buy through mail-order? What is the true environmental impact or economic effect of a given food choice. Have a glass of wine, appellation of your choice, and ponder these.
